We would like to thank you for all the ways you supported opera in Columbia during the 2022-2023 season! If you made a gift last year, attended an Opera Thursday, attended the Madama Butterfly performance or the Great Voices: from Broadway to Opera concert, supported Opera is Awesome, or even wrote to us expressing what our performance meant to you, you are part of the reason that we continue to make opera a priority in Columbia.
Thanks to your generosity, The Palmetto Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly in January of 2023 brought the largest audience to the Koger Center for the Arts in the history of our organization! For the upcoming 2023-2024 season, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, The Palmetto Opera will present a matinée performance of Gioachino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. The Barber of Seville follows the escapades of a barber, Figaro, as he assists Count Almaviva in winning the beautiful Rosina away from her lecherous guardian, Dr. Bartolo, so she can be with her one true love. Our second production will be A Celebration of Love: from Broadway to Opera, a matinée concert with orchestra held at the Koger Center on Sunday, June 9, 2024. Join us to relive some of the most beautiful love stories ever set to music.
Among our many outreach offerings, Opera Thursday at Villa Tronco allows you to hear local opera singers while taking in the ambiance of Columbia’s oldest Italian restaurant. The Palmetto Opera will offer over twenty Opera Thursday evenings on the first and second Thursdays of the month this upcoming season. In addition, Opera is Awesome, a program of introduction, education, and appreciation of opera for high school and middle school students will be a part our 2023-2024 season. Students that participate in the workshop will receive free tickets to attend The Barber of Seville in January.
